Haas UMC-500SS · Trunnion 5-axis

5-Axis CNC Machining

Ramsey, MN · Serving Minneapolis & the Twin Cities

Complex geometries, fewer setups, tighter true position. Our Haas UMC-500SS runs aerospace brackets, turbine housings, medical implants, and defense components in a single fixturing — because the more setups a part sees, the more places it can drift.

When 5-axis is the right call

If your part has any of these, send it 5-axis.

  • Compound angles or undercuts that 3-axis can't reach without rework
  • True-position callouts < 0.001″ across multiple features
  • Thin-wall structural parts where multiple setups would warp the part
  • Impellers, manifolds, turbine blades, surgical instruments
  • Production parts where setup time is killing your unit cost

Why fewer setups = better parts

Every time a part comes off a fixture, you're stacking tolerances and burning operator time. 5-axis lets us indicate one datum and machine 5 sides in a single cycle — tighter true position, lower scrap, faster turn.

On the floor

Aluminum aerospace job, single-op cycle.

Watch the UMC-500SS run a structural aluminum part on a 5th Axis V562M vise. Probing on the front side, repeatable indication, and a finish surface that doesn't need rework.

FAQ — 5-Axis Machining

Common questions

What's the maximum part envelope?

19.7″ × 17.7″ × 17.7″ with the trunnion installed. Larger parts route to the VF-4SS 3-axis with a 4th-axis indexer (50″ × 20″ × 24″).

Can you hold ±0.0002″ on production runs?

Yes — on critical features with CMM verification. Day-rate production tolerances are ±0.001″ with periodic CMM checks. Send the print and we'll mark up which features will need the tighter inspection plan.

Do you handle ITAR-controlled 5-axis work?

Yes. We're ITAR registered. Send controlled drawings through the RFQ form — we'll route them through our controlled-data process.

What's a typical 5-axis lead time?

Prototype: 5–10 business days. Production: 2–4 weeks depending on quantity and finishing. Rush available.

Have a part that needs 5-axis?

Send the STEP — we'll come back with a DFM markup, a quote, and a lead time inside 24 hours.
